Ask God for What You Want

We were greeters at church that Sunday morning. We had only been attending about six months. We were still getting to know others so greeting was a big step. Before service started Pastor came up to us and asked if he could stop by our house later in the afternoon. We said sure. I looked up at my husband and said, “He is going to offer me a job.” He responded, “Yeah, right.” That afternoon, Pastor sat at our dining room table and asked me to join the church staff focusing on Sr. High youth ministry.

Some people think I am a little blunt with God. Scripture tells us to ask, seek and knock. Quite frankly, if God knows my every thought, why should I mince words? I had left my previous youth ministry position burned out. So, a couple of months before our Sunday morning as greeters, I began to pray daily. It was something like this: God, I really like this church we are attending. I’m not sure if you are wanting me back in youth ministry, but if you are this is the church I want to be working at. Wouldn’t it be great if the local university didn’t have an intern for them this fall? Then they would need me :0) That is exactly what happened. There was no intern and they needed me.

13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14 NIV

9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11 NIV

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24 NIV.
There have been several times over the years where God has answered my specific requests. It reinforces for me that we are to take everything to God in prayer. I do believe that God wants to bless his children and that my requests were in keeping with His desires. But for some reason, I continue to be surprised when God does what He promises in scripture.
How about you? Do you believe all the promises of scripture? Do you believe God answers prayers? Do you believe in miracles? Do you believe God speaks to you-today? Do you believe the Holy Spirit is guiding you? God’s promises are for yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God is unchanging. I encourage you to ask, seek and knock knowing that God answers our prayers. Don’t forget to look for His answers.
How has God answered your prayers? Are you experiencing doubt? Leave a comment and let’s talk about it.
