Human Condition

I spend a lot of time trying to understand the human condition. Questions like how we think, make decisions, interact with others, are questions I want to better understand. Recently, I decided to run an experiment.

I had noticed my son had actually put a roll of toilet paper on the holder. However, the roll was upside down. Resisting my temptation to just turn it over, I decided to run an experiment. My hypothesis was that hubby would turn it over and blame me for putting it on wrong. It was a simple design and within a few hours I would have my results.

Later that evening, hubby said, “You put the toilet paper on upside down.” He had also fixed it. I chuckled and told him my experiment of the human condition. He wasn’t as amused and said it was manipulative. I suppose in most research the subject gives permission to participate. I think he’s just sore because I was right on both counts.

Religion, psychology, neuroscience have spent millennia trying to understand humans. God doesn’t need to run experiments. He know us completely. He knows our design. He knows what we need and is always there with undeserved grace.

15 Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! 16 So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help. (Hebrews 4:15-16 CEV).

It is common to think thoughts such as, “no one understands me,” “no one has been through what I have,” “I’m all alone in this.” Whether we are traveling a difficult road or struggling with long term mental illness, God knows our struggles. Grief and trauma are not new to Him. He meets us in the midst of it and reminds us there is hope, grace and love. We are not an experiment to Him. He fully understands the human condition.

Thank you, God for meeting me exactly where I am at regardless of what I have done or how I am feeling. You love me in spite of my failings. Thank you for the gift of unconditional love. Thank you for reminding me that I am perfectly and wonderfully made in your image.

How does God remind you that you are perfect? How has he met you in the midst of your struggles? Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
