In Relationship

Being in relationship with someone can bring lots of highs and lows. One minute we are so in love and the next ready to walk away. Laughter and anger are all part of the experience. We were created for relationships. God created us to need each other and God. We feel the most whole, the most complete when we are in close intimate relationships.

It makes sense then, that there are times when we get angry at, frustrated with, and misunderstand God. When someone dies too young, suffers a horrible illness, or is assaulted, it is natural to be angry with God. It is also natural to be frustrated when life is exceptionally difficult. When young children are hurt, declaring there is no God feels valid. We question how a loving God could allow such things.

5-6 Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help;
I’m fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me? (Hebrews 13:5-6 MSG).

We are promised that God will never leave or forsake us. How do we reconcile that? The truth is God never does leave us. It is also truth that love isn’t love without hard things. Relationships grow and deepen as we work through challenges. This includes challenges that make us angry at God. It’s all part of being in relationship. God expects these reactions from us and still chooses love.

It feels trite to say, “There is a reason for everything.” But, I believe there is and often I don’t get to see the fruits that come from deep pain, difficult relationships and out right tragedies that happen in life. My choosing to be in relationship with God means I trust Him even when I don’t understand Him. I choose the relationship over all having all the answers, and in the end, I deeply believe that love wins.

How is your relationship with God? Is there trust? Are you angry? How are you working through it? Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
