No Bad Days
Choosing no bad days going forward is going to be a challenge for me. A challenge I am wiling to take on. Until recently, good days, bad days, average days were all apart of my existence. I didn’t even think about it. It never occurred to me that it should be different, and then I read this by a women fighting cancer that was shared with me by a friend.
Making the most of now, living one day at a time and enjoying each moment, I started to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in those moments. Enjoying a simple walk, really listening to the birds, feeling the gravel underfoot, hearing the wind through eh pines, inhaling the fragrance of autumn, really taking in the beauty of a sunrise or sunset, looking at snow fall, and savoring the quiet time of each day. These are all the things I have a new appreciation for. I never have bad days. I have nauseated days and no hair days. I have tired days, long days, sunny days, rainy days, full days, silent days, and alone days but no bad days. All days are good. I’m grateful for that. I’m thankful for inner peace and knowledge that all is well. And, an understanding that God has everything under control even when our world may seem out of control.
This has struck a chord with me. This is what joy is as talked about in scripture.
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10 NIV).
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NIV).
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, (James 1:2 NIV).
I want the kind of joy that lives so deep within me that I can declare no bad days. Today, that seems doable, but I’m not facing my own mortality. Continually holding close to the one who comes as a babe in a manger, I pray, will bring that joy when I need it.
