Uncluttered

Clean CoverBack when my first-born was an infant, I asked my husband to commit with me not to spank our children. He said sure but then asked me why. I told him that I didn’t trust myself. I knew that a rage lurked within me. A rage I was afraid to uncork. At the time I didn’t fully understand where it came from, but I knew it scared me.

Life happens. We collect experiences. They form us into who we are. We hold onto them and keep loading them into the storage closet. Then that fills and life starts to spill over into other parts of our life. It was experiences from my childhood that taught me about rage and anger. We let it happen never realizing that we need to unclutter our life experiences the same way we unclutter the closets in our house.

It’s really those negative life experiences that leave us wounded and tend to spill over into other aspects of life and get in the way of living and loving to the fullest.  This promise from God tells us we don’t have to live with the wounds life gives us.

25-27 So don’t turn a deaf ear to these gracious words. If those who ignored earthly warnings didn’t get away with it, what will happen to us if we turn our backs on heavenly warnings? His voice that time shook the earth to its foundations; this time—he’s told us this quite plainly—he’ll also rock the heavens: “One last shaking, from top to bottom, stem to stern.” The phrase “one last shaking” means a thorough housecleaning, getting rid of all the historical and religious junk so that the unshakable essentials stand clear and uncluttered.

28-29 Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. He’s actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won’t quit until it’s all cleansed. God himself is Fire! (Hebrews 12:25-29 MSG).

Don’t take this promise lightly. God deeply loves you and promises to unclutter your life from the things that separate you from Him and you from love. His house cleaning is complete and thorough. I know because he did it for me. Rage is no longer an issue in my life. My house cleaning feels nothing short of miraculous. There is nothing special about me. The promise is for everyone including you.

Cling to this promise and have your life uncluttered. I know it’s hard to believe. I didn’t believe I was worth it until it happened to me. It can happen for you. Are you willing to trust God to clean out your house? You won’t regret it.
