Wide Angle View

I recently read this quote from Bob Goff in his devotional Live in Grace Walk in Love, “God has a wide angle view of your life. Don’t let your focus get so narrow that you miss the beautiful picture He sees.” This rang true for me. I can be so focused on what is right in front of me that I miss the big picture.

I like to look toward what is next, what is in the future. When I hadn’t reached certain life goals in the time in which I thought they should happen, I started to wonder if they were too lofty or off track. I believe God has a plan and a purpose for my life, so I tend to assume I misunderstood.

This quote reminds me there is an error in my logic. For one, my logic is very short sighted. When I take a wide angle view of my life, I see how God has used even the most inconsequential moments for His good and my good. Recently a thirty year old life goal, has come to fruition. The goal was so old that I had given up on it multiple times. God always knew how this would play out. God knew that 6 years of substitute teaching would be valuable in reaching the goal. I had always seen the substitute teaching as a detour, as inconsequential.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all. (Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG).

If I only look forward, my path seems to be filled with twists and turns with some of the welcome and some not so much. When I look back with a wide angle view, my path is straight. He has kept me on track.

I know my future will hold more twists and turns some that are going to be difficult and some fun and exciting. In all of those moments, I need to remember to that God has a wide angle view and He will keep my path straight.

Do you see how God has made you path straight? Do you trust His wide angle view of your life? Take a look around and you may be surprised. Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to others.

  1. This is true! There’s so many times that I feel I’m going nowhere and have made the wrong choices for my future, but looking back, it has all made sense and helped me in one way or another. Faith for the future and confidence in God’s plan when I can’t see – Amen!
