Moving forward can be bittersweet. It isn’t always a joyful journey. It can be painful and difficult. And, it can bring on feelings of grief as we let go of what was and move toward what can be.
My oldest son is experiencing his last year of high school, however he is not a senior. He has chosen to spend his senior year at the university of his choice. He is excited about what next year will bring. He is also experiencing the last of his high school days until his graduation next year. He is watching this year’s seniors go through recognitions and special moments experiencing their last game, last concert etc. These are his lasts too, but without the fanfare and his classmates. He has found himself experiencing some grief and emotional conflict as the school year wraps up. He has found letting go and moving forward to be bittersweet.
Change can be hard. We have a job change, school change, a relationship end, a life end, and we see what was. We miss it. We wonder what could have been. We see others moving on without us. It may feel like we are standing still. We may be going in a different direction. It causes us to question and grieve. I am reminded that the future is still bright, and that God has great things in store for us.
