Cancer and Garth Brooks’ Response

Garth Brooks

I’m interrupting my regularly scheduled blog to bring you this video by Garth Brooks. The headline says that there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. This is his reaction to a woman holding a sign during his concert in Minneapolis. I was struck not only by his declaration that God exists, but by his expression of grace and compassion toward the woman. This sign catches his eye and he stops the song, sits on the edge of the stage and gives the woman his guitar, gives her a kiss and takes the sign. According to KARE 11 news, the sign is remains by his dressing room. Cancer has impacted his life as it has for so many of us.

In fact, it’s hard to escape the effects of cancer these days. Recently, I have had three more people I care deeply about receive this life altering diagnosis. It is hard to know what to say or do. I want to reach out. I want to help, but I’m left feeling helpless. This video gave me the words. Garth’s words,”You have all my strength, you have everybody’s strength in here, now you go kick cancer’s ass!”  I think that is perfect. So here is what I want to say to all of those I care about fighting cancer, “You have all my strength. You have all the strength of those who care about you and are praying for you. You have all of God’s strength, so go kick cancer’s ass!”

Isaiah 40:29
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
