My spiritual life is somewhat of a roller coaster. There are times when I am dialed in. I’m reading, praying, and worshiping with drive and intensity. Honestly, there are times when I am going through the motions. Staying focused on God, isn’t always easy or natural for me.
It started with worship that morning. A good friend brought the message of vulnerability and forgiveness that reminded me to lean into to God, to focus on what God wants for me. He reminded me that sometimes this is uncomfortable.
Later that morning was a catch up with a dear friend. We chatted about family and moved to faith. We chatted about grace and making room for dissenting opinions. I left refreshed and focused on God.
That evening included a long conversation with long time, long distance friend. Again after catching up, the conversation turned to faith. We talked about the power of God, miracles that God has done in our lives and how we maintain intimacy with Him.
25 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test. 26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” 27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water. (Exodus 15:25-27 NIV).
What a day! Before bed as I was thanking God for the day, I paused and asked Him, “What are you trying to tell me?” While I had been focused on God all day, it was clear to me that I was coming out of a dry spell. The previous months were more “going through the motions” than “driving and engaging”. There were aspects of my faith that were getting dusty and needed my attention.
Thank you, God, for reminding me of your power, your commitment to me, and your desire to engage in a relationship with me. You have overwhelmed my heart, again. I am so grateful for all you have done in my life.
