
As huge Minnesota Vikings fans, it made perfect sense to attend the hall of fame enshrinement of one of our favorite players. The experience was very different than I expected. It was family friendly. It was community focused and filled with stories of grace.
Throughout the event several members of the hall of fame took to a small stage to share their story and answer questions from the audience. Every person had a story of faith. During the enshrinement every speech by an inductee included their faith.
Jared Allen took the stage and shared that if gets to heaven and all he is known for is his football records and gold jacket he has failed. He wants to be known as a good father, husband, friend and a man of faith. His speech was a powerful reminder of what matters.
I admit that I want to achieve in my professional career. I want to be seen as someone who does her job exceptionally well. It is in my nature to strive and pursue more. As Jared quoted Philippians 4, he reminded me to be content and have joy in all circumstances.
11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation… (Philippians 4: 11-12 NIV).
I didn’t expect the hall of fame weekend to be an expression of Christ and yet it was all around me. I was continually reminded that God is present in our lives, that my needs are met and I need to celebrate that gift.
