Letting fear rule

Letting Fear Rule

Letting fear rule

I have a way of letting fear rule my thoughts especially when there is significant waiting involved. On a recent trip, we were trying to get back to the airport when traffic had us gridlocked. The thought that 16 miles was going to take over an hour was mind boggling. Anxiety and fear started to build as we became concerned about making our flight.

I hold deeply the belief that God will provide and God’s will prevails in my life. This has helped me stay comforted and confident when challenges arise. Job changes, health challenges have always worked out for what was best for me even when it wasn’t what I was hoping for. Recently, I have found myself letting fear rule my thoughts rather than trusting what has always been true in my life.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:7-9 NIV).

This scripture reminds me of what I need to do, yet my mind and heart are struggling to feel safe and cared for. The truth is that I have been expecting this from outside sources who let me down and left me asking God a lot of questions including, “where are you.” So, I am doing the only thing I know to do. I am keeping scriptures of God’s promises on repeat in my mind. Honestly, it helps! Fear is lifting and courage is returning. I will not let fear rule my heart.

Do you struggle with fear and anxiety taking over? Does change challenge your heart? Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
