Reminders

bless you

Scripture is filled with great promises and direction from God. Why do I need continual reminders of those promises and direction?

Just this week a divine chain of events brought to mind my continual need for reminders. My manager had sent me a text encouraging me to read a day ahead in my devotional, Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I was then on a phone call with my sister who was anxious about a meeting the next day.

I hung up the phone and read the devotion. It was a great reminder about worry. The author said not worrying is a command. The first time I prayed and asked God for a scripture, I heard Matthew 6:25. This is a scripture I need to be reminded of regularly and so do many of us.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Matthew 5:26

I immediately sent a text to my sister telling her to dig out her copy of the book and read ahead. It was exactly what she needed.

Apparently, I am not the only one who needs these reminders. There are other reminders I need.

  • The Lord gives wisdom: Proverbs 2:6
  • God has a purpose and a plan for my life-a plan to prosper: Jeremiah 29:11
  • LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble: Psalms 9:9
  • I will save you in the midst of your troubles: Psalm 138:7

These are just a few of so many more in scripture. This is why we have the Bible to dig into. It is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of life and forget Who we have to lean on. I can get lazy with my devotional time especially in the busyness of the summer. Time can seem to fly by and I realize I’ve neglected the most important relationship in my life-the one I have with Jesus.

Reminders are there for all of us. Sometimes it takes friends or text messages to point us back to the One who gave the promises. I am thankful for the promises of God and the friends who point me back to them.

What helps you remember God’s promises? Is there someone in your life who points you in the right direction? Share here and we can encourage each other.
