Rude Awakening

Rude Awakening

The crack of lightening jolted me awake. It sounded like it was right outside the window. It was 2:00 am, and I did not want to be awake. The rude awakening was not welcome and that wasn’t the worst part.

Shortly after the lightening strike, I heard it. Ping, ping, ping, it was hail. Earlier this summer our house and a vehicle sustained significant damage due to large hail. My ”new to me” vehicle was in the driveway. I heard it again, ping, ping, ping. Without thinking about minimal clothing and being barefoot, I grabbed my keys and ran out to my car. I was instantly soaked by the pouring rain and ducking the hail. I couldn’t get out there fast enough. In fact, I don’t think I have moved that fast in decades.

Our house is still a construction zone as we continue repairs from the previous damage which means the garage wasn’t quite ready to receive vehicles. Hubby had gone through the garage to move a few thing out of my way. I was so desperate to get my car out of the one inch hail; I would have driven over anything in my way.

All in all, my rude awakening was minor. In life, we face times when we have to drop everything and run. Underneath that sense of urgency is fear, fear that we are going to lose something or someone. Do I have that same sense of urgency to run to Jesus?

Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever. I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, you don’t really believe me. Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go. I came down from heaven not to follow my own agenda but to accomplish the will of the One who sent me. (John 6:35 MSG).

Jesus holds on and doesn’t let go. That is what I need to remember when fear sets in, when I’m overwhelmed with life’s circumstances, and when I’m in the midst of a rude awakening. I need to run to Him.

What do you do in the midst of urgent circumstances? Do you run to Him? Do you trust that He has a hold on you? Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
