Every year as far back as I can remember, I have made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight. Clearly, if I need to make it every year, it’s not working. This year needs to be different. Then I received the best Christmas gift. It’s a devotional by Bob Goff called “Live in Grace, Walk in Love.” This year is going to be different.
The book is 365 days of inspiration to walk in love beginning with resting In God and learning a new rhythm to life. Goff relates learning to live this way is similar to learning to ride a bike. It is awkward and wobbly at first and then eventually you can’t remember not living this way. He begins by reminding me that resting God is how I learn the rhythms of grace.
28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:20-30 MSG)
I wish I could say a that I have mastered walking in love. Unfortunately, I have a lot of work to do. This year I have the perfect guide to live grace and love until it’s like riding a bike, until it is natural, not forced. It is going to take daily intention to get there. I can’t wait to see how my heart changes and my relationship with Christ grows. Will you join me?
What is your resolution? How are you going to strengthen your relationship with Christ and others? Are you willing to try to live in grace and walk in love? Share your experience here and breath life and bring hope to others.
