A Vessel

A Vessel

A Vessel

Lately, I have been reflecting on what it means to be a vessel for God. What does it mean for me to be used by God for a specific purpose? Am I open and willing to be used as seen fit? It’s easy for me to say yes to things that are in my comfort zone. Sharing my testimony is an easy yes, God. Help someone in need, I’m in.

When God calls me to do something hard or challenging, I balk. I make excuses. I offer alternatives. I become busy. That is exactly what I did when my husband’s grandfather moved in for remainder of his life some years ago. My first response was, “I’m not a home healthcare provider.” I was terrified of caring for an elderly person with significant needs. I was completely willing to be a vessel until it was hard and scary.

35 The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Highest hover over you; Therefore, the child you bring to birth will be called Holy, Son of God. 36-38 “And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.”And Mary said, Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me just as you say. Then the angel left her. (Luke 1: 35-38 MSG).

Mary, mother of Jesus, however, was the perfect vessel. She was asked to the hardest thing imaginable and her response was, “I am the Lord’s servant.” My heart wants to be like Mary, but my brain gets in the way.

Lord, thank you for meeting me where I am at and challenging me for more. I pray that I can rise to the call.

How about you? Are you a vessel ready for the Lord to use? Do you put limits on what you can do? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
