Waiting for a fresh start can feel like an eternity. The season of waiting often carries a mix of emotions—hope and disappointment, peace and frustration, confidence and doubt. Over the past nine months, I have experienced all of them. If I’m honest, I spent far more time on the frustration side than I wanted to admit. I wanted answers. I wanted clarity. Mostly, I wanted to move forward.
Waiting has a way of revealing what we trust. It exposes our desire to control the timing and reminds us how difficult it can be to surrender our plans. Yet even in the moments when I questioned what God was doing, He was quietly at work.
Early in this journey, several wise friends encouraged me to write down exactly what I was praying for in my next job. Rather than simply asking for employment, I listed specific qualities such as meaningful work, opportunities to grow, a healthy culture, flexibility, purpose, and a place where I could use my gifts. That list became a tangible reminder that I wasn’t just waiting; I was trusting.
13 Your kingdom is a kingdom eternal;
you never get voted out of office. God always does what he says,
and is gracious in everything he does. 14 God gives a hand to those down on their luck,
gives a fresh start to those ready to quit. 15 All eyes are on you, expectant;
you give them their meals on time. 16 Generous to a fault,
you lavish your favor on all creatures. 17 Everything God does is right—
the trademark on all his works is love. (Psalm 145:13-17 MSG).
Looking back now, I can clearly see God’s generosity. He answered every item on that prayer list, and added to it. Beyond a new position, He opened the door to a new ministry that has given me renewed purpose. What I thought was simply a career transition has become an invitation to serve in new ways.
The waiting wasn’t wasted. God was preparing opportunities, shaping my heart, and teaching me to depend on Him more deeply.
