My husband and I were driving through a nearby town where men where standing on the sidewalk holding signs to repent and believe or rot in hell. I had a visceral response inside, “that is not my Jesus.” I was angered. They are the reason so many turn away.
My Jesus changed my life from the core of who I am. As I was driving to the airport for a work conference, I felt my chest get heavy. I started to fear my life was going to end on this trip. I enjoy all travel even work travel. Where was this coming from?
To relieve this feeling, I started to imaging a large black coffin taking all of my fear of death out of my body. I then gave it to Jesus and asked Him to replace it with His love and grace. Often, this alone works. This time I needed more. I began to pray. When that wasn’t enough, I began to worship. I pulled up my favorite worship playlist and starting singing in the car. The first song was called My Jesus. The next thing I new I was relieved of my fears and in tears.
The chorus of the song says it all. “…Let me tell you ’bout my Jesus. His love is strong and His grace is free, And the good news is I know that He Can do for you what He’s done for me. Let me tell you ’bout my Jesus And let my Jesus change your life.”
5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 NIV)
My Jesus has set me free. He has given me the tools to move past the anxious feelings and find peace. He has released me from all rage. He has restored what men tried to take from me. He greatly increased my capacity for love. And, so much more. Mine is a transformed life and He can and will do for you what He has done for me. Let me tell you about my Jesus.
The Jesus represented on the sidewalk is not the One I love. How about you? Have you met the Jesus who is endless love and grace? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
