Remain Consistent

To remain consistent in good habits pays off when detours and challenges hit. Exercise has been a mainstay in my daily life for many years. During the 2020 lockdown, I learned that exercise six days a week rather than four had a noticeable positive impact on my mood. I became a nicer more regulated person.

Vacation can easily though off the daily routine. And, I would argue, it is good for the soul to take those breaks. However, getting started again can be a challenge. It is that first day after vacation that is the biggest challenge to remain consistent. This is when I have to talk myself into restarting my daily routine.

Let’s face it, it is more than my exercise routing that needs to get back on track. My devotional, reading, gratitude, church going practices have also faltered. But, here is the thing, when one develops consistent practices, getting back on track is easier. My mind, body and spirit appreciated the break but they are now ready to get back to the routine, get back to the practices that provide me the health and wellbeing.

58 With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort. (1 Corinthians 15:58 MSG),

Keeping spiritual practices along with physical exercise keeps me grounded in the work of Christ. I stay focused on love and grace not the troubles of this world and day to day life. Learning to remain consistent has been a gift that was so hard to initiate but slowly became routine. Consistent work on my relationship with God has given me strength when life is challenging, comfort when I grieve, and joy in God’s faithfulness.

How have you developed consistency? Are their areas that still need work? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
