Unexpected obstacles can range from a minor annoyance to a major challenge to overcome. Waking up to a tree across the driveway was definitely unexpected especially since there wasn’t a storm the night before.
This obstacle landed in the minor category. I simply drove through the yard to the neighbors to get to the road. Having a hubby who is experienced at wielding a chainsaw meant I came home to a cleared driveway.
Not all obstacles are that easily overcome. Some leave us feeling defeated and reconsidering our choices. They can feel insurmountable, or not worth the effort. But, what if the obstacle is worth the effort. What if we choose to reevaluate, adjust course, trust God and reach a better outcome?
“But you, Israel, are my servant.
You’re Jacob, my first choice,
descendants of my good friend Abraham.
I pulled you in from all over the world,
called you in from every dark corner of the earth,
Telling you, ‘You’re my servant, serving on my side.
I’ve picked you. I haven’t dropped you.’
Don’t panic. I’m with you.
There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.
I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you.
I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you. (Isaiah 41:8-10 MSG).
When I face unexpected obstacles, I have to work hard at not giving up on the goal especially if I know God has called me to it. I remind myself that God has and always will provide a way. He will give me the strength, knowledge and guidance needed to accomplish the goal and often it is a better outcome than I expected.
What do you do when you face unexpected obstacles? Do you retreat and feel defeated? Do you adjust course knowing God gives you the strength to overcome? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
Good morning, Mary!
