Change happens. There is not much we can do about it, but some changes we look forward to while others not so much. For me, unwelcome change seems to comes in waves.
The waves of snow moved through the Arizona mountains just as we were driving through them. The snow made the narrow, winding roads somewhat unnerving. This was an unwelcome change in weather as we headed for what was supposed to be a warm vacation. It’s the more significant changes that weigh heavy on one’s heart.
In recent months, unwelcome changes have started to pile up. Continued decline and changes in Mom’s health, changes at work, and health issues in kiddos are a few that have been weighing on my heart.
When things are changing around me, I tend to cling to the things that are constant, the things I know won’t change to keep me grounded. This gives me a sense of security a sense that everything will be okay. I am grateful for my husband, family and friends who consistently provide that for me.
As much as I need these people in my life, there is a deep sense that I need more to weather the unwelcome changes. There is only One who can give me the security I really need. There is only One who can bring peace to the worry in my heart. There is only One who knows what is on the other side of these changes and the journey I am on. He is unchanging. He is the one I cling to tightly.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 NIV).
Jesus is constant. Jesus doesn’t change. Jesus brings me comfort when I worry unnecessarily. He reminds me He is in control. He fills a void that no human can.
