All In For Jesus

All in for Jesus

Coming as a babe in a manger, we are challenged to be all in for Jesus. We are called to take on a new life and get rid of the old. God’s character reproduced in each of us. It seems so simple, yet it is taking me a lifetime.

While in college, I decided to go all in for Jesus by spending my summer in ministry in the Tennessee mountains. This experience was so impactful that I spent 5 more summers there. Par of what made this experience so impactful was being surrounded by people who were focused on Jesus.

20-24 But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you. (Ephesians 4: 22-24 MSG).

As I have grown and continued to work to throw off the old, a key has been surrounding myself with others on the journey. Sisters, dear friends and a faith community continue to pull be back on track when I start to wander off.

Reflecting on the call that started in a manger, I’m reminded of the cost Jesus paid for me to take on a God fashioned life. One that is forgiven, full of grace and growing in loving others. I’m reminded that continuing to be all in and be rid of the old requires others to keep me on track. As I head into a new year, I need to cultivate my relationships as well as my faith to continue to get rid of the old.
