I was attending a worksop and around the room where signs stating God’s in a good mood. All day I kept looking at the sign. Why did the presenters hang it? Where they implying God is typically in a bad mood? Where they implying that God’s always in a good mood?
It’s not uncommon for people to see God as vengeful, angry and punishing. I have always seen God as loving and full of grace, however there have been times when I have wondered what God really thinks about me. Hearing God loves everyone is true, but not always comforting. It’s easy to believe that God’s love is for others but not for me. It’s easy for me to feel flawed and not good enough. It’s easy to feel that I don’t deserve God’s good mood.
In some churches you will hear the refrain, “God is good all the time; all the time God is good.” These are a few scriptures that remind me of God’s goodness toward me. They remind me that God’s goodness toward me is not based on my good behavior.
God looked over everything he had made;
it was so good, so very good! (Genesis 1:31 MSG).
You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you. (Psalm 86:5 NIV).
God is good to one and all;
everything he does is suffused with grace. (Psalm 145:9 MSG).
It’s true. God is always in a good mood. He forgives me. He gives me grace when I need it. He reminds me that he wants the best for me. I don’t need to perform, accomplish or strive for His love and grace. When I get down on myself, He reminds me that His love for me is unwavering.
