Miracles, do they still happen? It’s a valid question, but the other question we have to ask ourselves is would we notice. It is my mom that has me thinking so much about miracles.
The boys and I had just arrived to take Mom out for lunch. A visit with Mom requires heading out to her favorite lunch spot. As we topped the stairs, she was literally dancing in circles in her living room. My first reaction was, “Don’t fall!” She was beaming saying, “My legs don’t hurt. It’s a Miracle.”
Over the last few months, Mom has been struggling with severe pain in her legs. The pain finally became great enough that she agreed to see a doctor, and the doctors did find blockages in arteries in both of her legs. She scheduled a procedure that was to open these blockages up. When the surgeon got the scope in her femoral artery, she realized that, due to previous procedures, she wouldn’t be able to get to the site of the blockages. Mom was so disappointed to find out that she was going to have to live with the pain.
Needless to say I was shocked at Mom’s declaration and dancing. Then she began to explain how she had been praying fervently for various family members with significant health issues. She finally decided to add herself to the list. God brought her relief. She had been pain-free for a week. I’m not sure about her walking without a cane but she was definitely moving better.
This was a big healing miracle. It has had me questioning where else miracles are happening and am I even taking the time to notice.
3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. (Hebrews 2:3-4 NIV).
Life is often moving at such a swift pace that I fail to witness the wonders and miracles that God is doing around me and through me. Yes, through me. My joy in Christ serves as reminder to those around me of the miraculous gift God has given all of us, Christ.
This has me wondering about what I’ve been missing out on by not paying attention to God’s testimony around me? There is a richness, a joy, a fuel for my soul that I have ignored. There is a saying, “Stop and smell the roses.” I want to “stop and see the miracles of God” happening all around me. Will you join me?
