I often forget to pray for wisdom. When life gets challenging, I ask God to help the situation, fix the circumstance, or bring about super natural change. It seems simple and obvious, and often it is not.
Every year we plan new teachings for our Best Life Ministries conferences. As I was driving to work, it hit me. The baby cut in half story. I had a partial memory of the story and I knew where to take the story for the teachings. What I didn’t remember was King Solomon praying for wisdom.
8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. (1 Kings 3:8-12 NIV)
Since then, I have found myself needing to pray for wisdom on multiple occasions. Work situations, family situations, health situations have all brought me to prayer recently. Funny how something meant for me to use to teach others is teaching me. God works that way often in my life, and I’m grateful when He does. I can always use more wisdom.
