Rocks Cry Out

Rocks cry out

Once again Minnesota finds itself wrapped in horrific violence. At this even the rocks cry out. All of creation recognizes that this goes against all of what God calls us to. As I reflect on how we got here, I also force myself to pray and engage in a way that reflects Jesus. I start with this prayer posted on Facebook by Pastor David.

O Lord, today we see again the brokenness of humankind. We confess our part, our sin when we think, speak, and act against others in ways that marginalize their life or bring injury to them.

O Lord, today that brokeness was acted out at the assassination of Rep. Melissa Hortman and the murder of her husband Mark. Bring comfort to their families, friends and community. We pray too for the recovery of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Anette from the multiple gun shot wounds they received.

O Lord, may we respond to these acts of political terrorism with a desire for the well-being of all people. May we work for justice and peace for all humanity. Fill us with hope for we know that because of you, Love is Greater than fear. Amen. ~Pastor David Doppenberg

As the rocks cry out for love, for change, for Christ, this scripture is what I cling to. Love casts out all fear. I must love my brother and sister-all humanity.

18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 19 We love because he first loved us.20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister (all humanity). (1 John 4: 18-21 NIV).

There is brokenness all around and I am called to bring love to all. I claim God. I imperfectly claim love. God help me be an advocate and creator of your love to those around me.

As the rocks cry out, do you feel compelled to advocate for God’s love? Are you willing to claim God? Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
