Transitions

Transitions are hard, stressful, exciting, and often overwhelming. Typically, it is natural for me to trust and lean on God when the path is unclear. This transition to a new career was mixed with trust and the deep questions, “why?”

While I have felt secure in knowing my new career is exactly where God wants me, I have spent time wondering why this all happened. It wasn’t until this week, almost two months into the new gig, that I realized God was responding to a longing I held quietly within. For the last couple of years, I had been dreaming of a new challenge, desiring to grow and expand my impact. There wasn’t an opportunity for that at my previous employment. Not only has God heard my longings, God said, “You are thinking too small.” Without being forced to take this step, I would have stayed in my comfort zone and missed this opportunity.

16 This is what the Lord says—
    he who made a way through the sea,
    a path through the mighty waters,
17 who drew out the chariots and horses,
    the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
    extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 “Forget the former things;
    do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

Transitions invite us to trust that God is doing a new thing. They invite us to lean into the unknown and search for the ways God is answering our prayers. It took time for me to see what God was doing. I am so glad I didn’t miss it.

How do you handle transitions? Do you trust God is doing a new thing, or do you cling to what was? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
