Truth

This election seasons has exhausted me. Who is telling the truth? Who’s facts are the facts? This group on the right sees the numbers this way. This group on the left sees the numbers that way.

I consider myself a fact checker. I like to get it, what ever it is, right. When I teach, I site my sources. I want others to clearly know where my information has come from, and to be able to check it out for themselves.

Now, there are an exhuasting number of questions to ask when information is presented. Who said it? Is this person an expert in their field? Is this biased site (as much as we can remove bias)? Is opposing information considered? Who funds the site? Who controls the site? Are they trying to promote truth or rhetoric? How do I know the difference? Exhausting!

Then this scripture is read and it sears my heart. Where do I go for truth? Who brings truth? Hear these words of Jesus.

12-15 “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t handle them now. But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said. He will honor me; he will take from me and deliver it to you. Everything the Father has is also mine. That is why I’ve said, ‘He takes from me and delivers to you.’ (John 16:12-15 MSG).

We have the Holy Spirit to guide us to truth. All truth aligns with the character of God. It comes directly from Him and He can’t go against Himself.

Lord, forgive my unbelief. Forgive my willingness to to devert my eyes from you. Help me, Lord, to lean into You, to learn Your will and Your way through your Word, through prayer, through a community of believers. I aknowledge that one of these three is not enough. I need them all to grasp the fullness of who You are.

Lord, show me Your truth. Allow my heart to know what brings You joy. Allow me to focus on lifting others up because that delights You. Let my heart be broken by what breaks Yours. Allow me to see grace, love and mercy in those around me as it draws me to You. Lord, let Your truth break forth on this earth. That is the truth I need.

How are you leaning on the truth of God? How do grown in knowing and understanding God’s truth? Share your experience here and breathe life and bring hope to other.
