Clear View

A clear view of the road ahead can be a challenge during Minnesota winters. I like to be able to see where I am going. I like clear direction with a detailed plan to arrive on time to my destination. Unfortunately, I don’t always see the road ahead.

Dad made sure I always knew the consequences of my decisions. This was the best way to avoid problems, missteps, and getting in trouble. In high school, I chose to help a friend who was estranged from her family. My dad was concerned that I should reach out to my friend’s parents. After I had shared with him all of the aspects of the situation I had considered, he simple said, “Okay then, I wanted to make sure you knew the consequences.” He wanted to make sure I always had a clear view of what was in front of me.

Sometimes there are transitions in front of me without an obvious direction. At times, the right choice is unclear. For someone who strategically plans every aspect of her life, having an unclear view of the road ahead brings up fear and anxiousness.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
    Run to God! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health,
    your very bones will vibrate with life!
Honor God with everything you own; (Proverbs 3: 5-8 MSG).

When fear takes over, it is easy to forget to listen for God’s voice. It is easy to forget that I can trust Him to keep my path straight and me on track.

What do you do when you don’t have a clear view? Do you listen for God’s voice and direction or head towards fear? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
