Beginning in Genesis, God promised his abundant blessings that culminates in the arrival of Jesus as the ultimate expression of His love. God keeps His promises. Why is that so surprising?
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor,Mighty God,
EverlastingFather, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justiceand righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV).
There are additional promises in scripture. God promised to protect us, be our strength, answer us, give us peace and more. Why am I so reluctant to believe those promises are for me? Am I missing something? Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.
I expect God to fulfill his promises the way I want them fulfilled. When I pray, I have a set result in my mind that I want to see happen. I want the events of my life and my kid’s lives to play out on my terms. That is not what God promised.
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).
When I look back on last year, I can see promises fulfilled even in places I thought He was absent. A job I really wanted didn’t come through. I thought it was perfect and meant to be. Now, I look back and am grateful I didn’t get it. I see God’s protection, provision and answers.
What if we spend some time reflecting on the many places God’s promises show up? How long would your list be? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
