It was time for a long overdue walk with God. We live across from a state forest that allows me easy access to miles of trails. Yet, I hadn’t been out there in over a year. I prefer to go when there is snow and I can use snowshoes. This walk didn’t include snow, but I couldn’t resist the pull to spend time with God.
I have always connected with God through movement and the outdoors. It is often the only time I slow down enough to listen and not just talk to God. My soul needed to connect with God in a personal way. I grabbed headphones, layered up for the cold and headed out on my overdue walk.
The best part of being in the woods alone is dancing my way down the path when a favorite praise song comes on. I began with thanking God for all of the blessings of the last year and began to pray for the year to ahead. I listened for guidance, and put in His hands the many things I cannot control but want to.
God—you’re my God!
I can’t get enough of you!
I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God,
traveling across dry and weary deserts. 2-4 So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open,
drinking in your strength and glory.
In your generous love I am really living at last!
My lips brim praises like fountains.
I bless you every time I take a breath;
My arms wave like banners of praise to you. (Psalm 63: 1-4 MSG).
It was so good for my soul. I returned renewed and ready to face 2025. I am ready to intentionally connect with others. I am ready to look for God in all things. I am ready to face the challenges ahead. I pray that I continue to nourish my soul with walks with God rather than waiting until it is an overdue walk.
