I like to think I listen closely to God. Yet, I wonder how much am I missing in my busyness. Work and day to day life moves quickly. Deadlines pile up and the focus is on what is next not the One who is guiding me.
When I am listening closely, I hear the nudges to lean into this scripture. King Solomon was listening closely to be able to creatively and correctly judge this situation. What about the woman who said no don’t cut the baby in half? It was her son. Was she listening closely? Did she know it would work out okay or did she simply want her son to live? Arguments could be made either way. Listen closely remains the point.
26 The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!” But the other said, “Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!” 27 Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother.” 28 When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice. (1 Kings 3:26-28 NIV).
I want an ear to hear like King Solomon. I want a heart that hears and trusts like the mother of the living child. I don’t want to miss the lessons God has for me when he nudges me to read or respond to Him. While this story is about pain and brokenness, it is also about God’s faithful wisdom that is there for us when we ask.
Do you listen closely? Do you lean into God’s nudges? Are you willing to respond to his ask? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
