I am always telling my children they are my favorite. I have my favorite oldest and my favorite youngest. My youngest gave me this candle in an effort to claim is place as the favorite. It is fun banter amongst us.
This actually started decades ago with my brother. As a mechanic, he would frequently receive calls from me asking about my car. As soon as he would say hello, I would respond, “It’s your favorite sister.” As the youngest of his four sisters, I assumed I was the favorite. This went on for years when he finally confessed that all of his sisters claim to be the favorite.
26-28 God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them
reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea,
the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself,
and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
God created human beings;
he created them godlike,
Reflecting God’s nature.
He created them male and female.
God blessed them:
“Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!
Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,
for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.” (Genesis 1:26-28 MSG)
From the beginning of creation, we were created in the image of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We were made in the image of perfection. We were made in the image of the one who comes as a babe and teaches us all the meaning of love. We were made in the image of the Great Creator with vast intelligence and compassion. We were made in the image of the Spirit who connects us.
I must be God’s favorite. You must be God’s favorite. We are perfectly and wonderfully made. Just as I see both of my children as my favorite, God sees each of us as His favorite. Knowing that puts a smile on my face, reminds me that I am special and enough.
Do you hear God telling you, “You are my favorite?” Listen for it and then share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
