Answer The Call

Answer the call

I want to be one who can always answer the call. Truth is I am often full of excuses. I’m too busy. My work schedule doesn’t have space for the commitment. I can also ignore the need exists; pretend I don’t see it.

My sister, however, didn’t hesitate. She was visiting with her neighbor who shared that another neighbor was struggling. This neighbor has twin daughters with extensive physical and cognitive support needs and a husband on hospice with no respite.

My sister didn’t hesitate. She walked over the neighbors house and offered her help. My sister has years of experience in working with adults with significant needs. She volunteered to go over twice a week so the neighbor could run errands and take a break. The neighbor was moved to tears. I was moved to tears.

34-36 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why: I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.’ (Matthew 25: 34-36 MSG).

My sister new how to answer the call. She said, “I have time.” She offered her skills and care to help her neighbor. She inspires me to do better. She inspires me to respond to the needs around me. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to find someone who could use some care or generosity. The effort comes in the follow through.

Will you join me? Will you answer the call? How have you reached out to others with care and generosity? Share your story here and breathe life and bring hope to others.
