Generosity is not something that comes naturally to me. I want to make sure I have my needs met first. I question if the recipient has earned the gift, and I want to make sure the gift is going to be used the way I intended.
I need to learn from my husband. In an effort to boost morale and connection at his high school, he invited the entire school staff to our house for a wine tasting of his homemade wine with games and food. Custodians to administration have all been invited.
He has spent the last couple of weeks preparing by cleaning, planning, cooking etc. Our personal expense has not been his concern as clearly seen by the Amazon packages that keep showing up. His sole focus has been bringing joy to others, getting to know his colleagues better and lifting some of the weight of working in eduction.
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NIV).
I have always admired his generosity. I grew up seeing giving as an obligation not a gift. My husband has helped me find ways to give more. He reminds me that when I give I receive. He reminds me that there is joy in giving. As we head into the holiday season, I want to find new ways to express my generosity.
